Divorce & The Holidays

The holidays are not the best time to separate or divorce. Why? Because some children will always associate the holidays with sadness. It is also not a good idea to divorce close to birthdays and other significant days. Did you know? Divorce & the Holidays

The holidays are especially difficult for many children of divorce and for some divorced parents because they will not all be together in one place the way they used to. Still, there are numerous steps parents can take to ensure that their children and themselves have an enjoyable holiday season:

1. Remember life is never perfect. Just do the very best you can in whatever situation you find yourself

2. Don’t revisit the past, unless you are looking at posivite times

3. Support the relationship with your children and the other parent. If you are buying gifts, for example, encourage the children to buy a nice gift and a card for the other parent

3. Whether you are religeous or not; the end of the year is a great time to celebrate the passing of another year, with all its challenges and its opportunities and to make plans for the new one as well – Go ahead; celebrate with your kids! Regardless of how many challenges you might have faced throughout the year, there were great times too. Go ahead; celebrate them!

4. As the new year approaches, leave the challenges of the old year behind you. You cannot change the past

Remember – your children need your support and they are looking to you for guidance. Don’t let them down and don’t let yourself down either. Have the greatest holiday season.

Rude Parents?

Concerns are being expressed regarding many of today’s children who lack basic manners. Some experts affirm, however, that this is not the children’s fault. Rather, they might just be repeating their parent’s behaviors. Come on parents! If you are guilty of displaying negative behaviors around your kids; it might be time for you to consider how your actions and your decisions could be affecting them. If you are experiencing difficulties, which might be influencing your behavior, get some help. Talk to a professional. Do the right thing!
