Divorce and Children

Children of divorce will often fall into 3 main groups. A third will do very poorly. A third will do ok, and the final third will do exceptionally well, sometimes just as well, or even better than those whose parents stay married. Numerous factors, however, determine the group to which children will belong. These include: 1. How parents conduct themselves before, during and especially after the divorce. 2. How parents relate with each other. 3. How often parents see their children and how they relate to them. 3. How parents talk to each other in the children’s presence and what they say about each other to the children. 4. How soon parents get into new relationships, among many others. With the chance of a first marriage surviving beyond the first decade only 50/50; divorce is a reality in our society. Still, parents can determine how their children adjust to this life-altering event and they are morally obligated to esure that the adjust well. Remember, to register for mandatory parenting/divorce education classes and Sandcastles groups for children of divorce with Dr. Percy Ricketts of Pembroke Pines, Broward County, Florida, or to purchase divorce-related resources, please go to: www.divorceclass.info.

Divorce

Why do some people find it so alarming that so many marriages are falling apart, that divorce is so common, that rudeness has replaced good manners and that so many members of our society are simply “out-of-control?” These are just signs of the times. Many parents have been out of control for years and their examples are the only ones to which their children have been exposed. Today’s children are just behaving the way they have been trained. It should not be so alarming at all. What do you think?
