Parenting Class Information

These state-approved, mandatory, 4-hour parenting courses are facilitated by Psychotherapist, Dr. Percy Ricketts in Pembroke Pines, Broward County and Miami, Florida. They are intended to assist parents, by providing them with information on divorce, as well as help them become more aware of other relevant divorce-related matters including the following:

  1. Basic information about divorce

  2. The impact of divorce on adults and children

  3. Child development

  4. How parents can help themselves and their children cope effectively with divorce

  5. Parents’ and Children’s basic needs

  6. Children’s rights

  7. The stages of grief and loss

  8. Parenting during divorce and co-parenting afterwards

  9. Basic divorce-related concepts such as:

    • Time Sharing

    • Parenting plans

    • Mediation

  10. Child abuse and neglect

  11. Domestic violence

  12. The destructive nature of anger in relationships

  13. Communicating effectively after divorce with:

    • The other parent

    • Children

    • Other parties involved including step-parents

  14. Tools for influencing, motivating and connecting with children

  15. Games parents and children play and how to avoid them

  16. Available community resources to assist parents and children
